At 6 p.m. in the Montpelier Room (Madison Bldg.) on Tuesday, March 6 (the 150th anniversary of the Dred Scott decision), Mary E. Neighbour will discuss her new novel, "Speak Right On: Dred Scott, A Novel" (The Toby Press, 2006) in a "Books & Beyond" public program hosted by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress in cooperation with the Missouri Center for the Book and the Maryland Center for the Book, and also the Historical Society of Silver Spring, Maryland.

The one-hour program, to be followed by a book signing and light refreshment, will feature the author and include brief comments by several special guests, including:

  • Lynne Jackson of St. Louis, a great-great-granddaughter of Dred Scott, who has recently established the Dred Scott Heritage Foundation;
  • Federal District Judge Henry E. Autrey of St. Louis, Missouri; and
  • Richard Hollyday of Connecticut and Katharine Moore of Silver Spring, Maryland, direct descendants of Dred Scott's lawyer in the Supreme Court, Montgomery Blair (1813-1883) of Missouri and Maryland, who joined Lincoln's cabinet as U.S. Postmaster General in 1861.
